🚗Developed by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the USA, this technology enables wireless charging of vehicles with both high speed and high efficiency.
🟢Announced by the research team charging a Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차)’s #Kona Electric vehicle at 100 kW speed, they used ORNL’s patented ‘polyphase electromagnetic coil’ technology and power modules with silicon carbide chips in this test.
🔌They achieved a charging speed of 100 kW with just a coil with a diameter of 35 cm. The new technology’s ability to do this with 96% efficiency indicates significantly less loss compared to home AC devices.
🔋#ORNL, addressing the two main obstacles to the widespread adoption of wireless charging in vehicles, namely charging speed and low efficiency, is currently collaborating with various electric vehicle manufacturers including #Volkswagen. The R&D team’s goal is to achieve wireless charging speeds of 200 kW and above with the same efficiency in the coming years.
