Toyota will switch to a unibody chassis design like Tesla. The unibody chassis design, which helped Tesla reduce the cost of production, managed to attract the attention of Toyota after Volvo and Volkswagen. The Japanese giant announced in a press release that it will use a single-piece chassis in both the front and rear of its new electric vehicle platform, which it will launch in 2026.
The solid chassis, which will gradually halve the production cost and reduce the factory investment volume, will be used for the first time in the electric Lexus. It will go on sale in 2026. It is stated that this vehicle will come with a new generation battery that will push the limits with 965 kilometers.
Toyota, which will first get rid of 85 different parts by producing the rear chassis in one piece, will then transform the front chassis and combine a total of 175 chassis parts into two giant parts. The company will realize this transformation with systems similar to the 6,000-ton giant aluminum casting machines that Tesla bought from Italian iDRA.
