Interest in compact thermal management systems for electric vehicles, which reduce range loss in winter, enable faster and lower-energy heating of the cabin, and effectively cool the battery during summer, is rapidly increasing.
Last year, German company MAHLE introduced a new generation heat pump system, similar to Tesla, which combines various components into a single module. Mahle announced that it has received a record order worth €1.5 billion for this product.
This solution, which takes up less space and collects waste heat from different areas of the vehicle to transfer it to the battery, cabin, and other areas, promising up to a 20% increase in range. It received significant orders from two firms, one operating globally and the other a famous Chinese electric vehicle startup.
The system, which reduces assembly costs with its compact structure, minimizes abnormal capacity losses in the battery, and occupies a narrower and lighter space in the vehicle, indicates the rapidly growing need for such solutions in the automotive sector.
Mahle predicts that the market for electric vehicle-focused thermal management systems will reach a financial size of €50 billion by 2030.
