Owning a Tesla means that you get to enjoy new software features every now and then. American EV maker has been adding new functionality to its vehicles to further increase their usability. The ‘Car Wash Mode’ is one of those features that was released earlier.
Tesla’s Car Wash Mode is essentially a bundle of small adjustments for a safer car wash experience. When enabled, this mode will lock the charge port door, frunk, and trunk, turn off automatic wipers, and set the climate to circulation, etc.
Here’s a simple guide for enabling the ‘Car Wash Mode’ in your Tesla vehicle:
Step 1. Before activating the car wash mode, put your Tesla into park mode.
Step 2. Touch the ‘Controls‘ button on the bottom left corner of the main screen. Then navigate through the ‘Service‘ menu section to find the ‘Car Wash Mode‘ option and activate it.
Important Tip: In Car Wash Mode, do not go over 10 mph (15 km/h). Speeding over that limit deactivates the wash mode.
Step 3. Shift into Drive and position your Tesla for the car wash. If you’re going to get an automatic car wash service, press on your vehicle’s brake pedal to shift into neutral or touch the ‘Enable Free Roll‘ button on the bottom right corner of the display.
Step 4. Once the washing is over, put your foot on the brake and disable the car wash mode.
By using this mode, you will avoid any car wash accident occurring, ie. charge port door opening middle of the wash or wipers getting smashed up by brush strokes if the automatic wipers feature is on. Tesla highly recommends putting your vehicle in car wash mode to decrease the possibility of these kinds of accidents happening. But be aware, even if you activate this mode, any damage caused by car washes won’t be covered by the warranty.
