#Renault unveiled its highly anticipated budget-friendly electric car today at the Geneva International Motor Show. The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, the first product of the AmpR Small platform (a revamped version of the CMF-B EV), will ignite the competition in the European electric vehicle market with its starting price of €25,000.
The vehicle offers two battery options: 40 and 52 kWh, with battery cells manufactured by AESC in China this year. Starting in 2025, with the Chinese company beginning production in France, the batteries will be entirely domestically produced.
Components of the #Renault5, such as the motor, reduction gear, and inverter, are manufactured as a single unit, providing a weight advantage of 15 kg compared to electric #Megane and #Scenic models. Additionally, even the largest battery of the car weighs only 280 kg, contributing significantly to its lightweight design and energy efficiency.
Luca de Meo, the CEO of the Renault Group, claims that the Renault 5 will roll out of the factory even faster than #Tesla, with a production time of just 9 hours. This approach will not only reduce costs but also allow Renault to conduct production, including subsystems, at facilities within 300 km of each other in the north of #France, thereby reducing its carbon footprint and approaching the production speed of Chinese rivals.
