Diesel Volvo production ends in early 2024.
Volvo is closing its diesel era at the beginning of next year. The company had a 58% share of diesel-engine vehicles in 2019. Last month, diesel’s share fell to only 8.9%.
One of the three models sold by the Swedish company, which will sell only electric vehicles in 2030, last month was fully electric or plug-in hybrid. With the fully electric EX30, the share distribution is expected to change more quickly in favor of electric. The vehicle will be launched soon in Europe and America.
The current situation in Europe was also effective in Volvo’s decision to finalize diesel. In 2015, diesel sales accounted for more than 50% of the European automobile market. In the same year, Volvo’s diesel vehicle sales peaked with an 88% share. Today, the share of diesel car sales in Europe has fallen to 14%.
