Electric vehicles are rapidly gaining popularity under favour of significant advances in lithium batteries. New vehicle batteries manage to store much more energy in lighter, smaller packages. For this purpose, CATL, which launched the world’s first moduleless battery in 2019, is here with a new battery design.
The Chinese battery manufacturer transforms the liquid cooling plate. And it also transforms the thermal pad into a thin, elastic layer placed between the battery cells. It announced that it has increased the energy density at the package level to 255 Wh/kg for batteries with NMC cathodes and to 160 Wh/kg for batteries with LFP cathodes.
The ‘Qilin’ battery, will enable electric vehicles to travel 1000 kilometers or even longer on a single charge. It paves the way for electric vehicles to perform thermal management in the battery much more efficiently.
Saying that it can reduce the 10-80% charge cycle to 10 minutes by preventing overheating, CATL states that it is 13% more efficient than Tesla’s 4680 battery structural battery pack, by succeeding in storing energy in 72% of the battery pack’s volume.
CATL Market Cap Exceeds $190 Billion
Following the launch of the 1000 km range CTP 3.0 battery, CATL’s shares increased by 6% in the Chinese stock markets and reached a market value of 190 billion dollars.
Evolving towards moduleless and even unpackaged batteries, the electric vehicle energy storage solutions market is focused on the idea that cars have the longest range with the lightest battery.
The Ningde-based battery manufacturer will begin supplying its third-generation moduleless battery design to customers in 2023.
While electric vehicle companies are already lining up for the next generation battery, Li Auto and Hozon brands have officially announced that they will launch their first vehicles with CATL Qilin batteries next year.
