An extraordinarily sophisticated flagship pickup truck is the GMC Hummer EV. A few years after its debut, GMC is now starting to manufacture the three-row SUV model.
General Motors’ Factory Zero in Detroit-Hamtramck is currently producing the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV. According to the American automaker, GMC started assembling the first Hummer EV SUVs on January 30. Customers will start receiving their reserved cars at the end of the first quarter.
The Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV, which share the same Ultium platform as the Hummer, will go into production at the same plant. The all-electric SUV and pickup version of the Hummer is now being assembled.
During a business roundtable, Duncan Aldred, global vice president of GMC and Buick, stated that a significant ramp-up in manufacturing will be in the second half of 2023. Although Aldred also refrained from providing exact on-sale dates or projected production levels. The American truck manufacturer had reported receiving over 90,000 bookings for the Hummer EV’s pickup and SUV models. Duncan Aldred noted that about 50–60% of those reservations were for pickup.
The 2024 Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV Has Three Electric Motor Options
The 2024 brand-new Hummer has three electric motors capable of generating up to 830 hp and AWD. It allows for reaching 0-60 mph/0-96 kmh in around 3.5 seconds. The SUV is 9 inches/22 cm shorter than the pickup. It retains the fascinating CrabWalk function that allows for diagonal driving as well as the capacity for a DC rapid charge at 800 volts and up to 300 kilowatts.
The first Hummer EV SUV was sold at auction for $500,000
A non-profit organization called Tread Lightly received $500,000 from the auction sale of the first production Hummer Edition 1 EV SUV. The NGO promotes outdoor recreation via stewardship and educational initiatives. Their plan is to use the proceeds from the sale of the Hummer to finance trail preservation initiatives and to advance outdoor ethics.
